Eoghan McDermott opens up about the “long road” to buying his first home

It's an exciting time for Eoghan.
It’s an exciting time for Eoghan.

Eoghan McDermott has just purchased his first home and he’s opened up about the journey he took to finally be able to own his own place.

The 2fm DJ is over the moon with the purchase, but admits it’s taken a long time and a lot of hard work for him to be in the position to buy his own home.

The 33-year-old first started working as a presenter when he was 19 and since then he’s established himself as one of Ireland’s most esteemed and well known broadcasters. However, despite seeing huge success in his career, it’s taken him over ten years to finally have enough money to purchase a home.

Taking to Instagram yesterday, Eoghan shared a photo of himself in his new home holding his keys and alongside the photo he wrote about the ‘long road’ to making the purchase.

“Just bought my first house! It’s been a long road… I did my first presenting gig when I was 19, studying politics & Irish in UCD. Then I moved to New York & studied my first love of dance.

“Two years later after choreographing an opening show for Chris Brown I was asked to audition for a drama series on TG4, set in a performing arts school. I got the part & that series led me to presenting a chart show called Pop4 for the station.

“A radio show for Spin1038 & magazine show for BBC NI followed & then a dream move to London to host DriveTime on the legendary Xfm, now Radio X – home of Ricky Gervais, Russell Brand & Dermot O’Leary. The Guardian said it was the best radio show of it’s type in the UK, woohoo!

“That led to bagging co-presenting The Voice Of Ireland for 5 years, co-hosting Electric Picnic, specials with Ed Sheeran, Kodaline and Drivetime on 2fm.”

He then went on to say that it hasn’t always been plain sailing for him and he has had his fair share of setbacks but assured fans if they keep working hard they’ll get to the stage he’s at in his life.

“These are some highlights but there’s been big dry spells, near misses, huge disappointments, failures, false promises, empty bank accounts and everything in between. It’s a wonderful & ruthless industry simultaneously.

“It’s taken 10 years to get to this point – and it could go wrong at any time. But right now, I’m happy. Keep your head down, work hard and you’ll get there. Peace x”

Congratulations on your new home, Eoghan!
