Ronan Keating has backtracked after an interview claimed he apologised for the affair he had while he was still married to his ex-wife Yvonne Connolly.
The Boyzone star has taken to his Facebook page to respond to media coverage that he had freshly apologised for cheating on his former wife, who he was married to for 14 years, back in 2010 with back-up dancer Francine Cornell.
Ronan and Yvonne eventually split in 2011, unable to fix the cracks left in the relationship from his infidelity, and they have both since moved on with other partners. Ronan married Australian tv producer Storm Uechtritz and Yvonne seems loved-up with boyfriend John Conroy.
Speaking about his unfaithful past to the Telegraph, the singer said: “Nobody should have an affair… If you’re man enough to have the balls to go home and say, ‘Sorry, this isn’t working any more’, that’s the ideal situation, isn’t it? But we’re weak. We don’t do that.
“So yes, I hurt people and I am sorry for that hurt, but the outcome is I found Storm and I’m very grateful. But I’m saying I’m sorry.”
But writing on his Facebook page today, he said: Ihave done a lot of interviews over the years so you think I would know how to handle difficult questions etc. But the truth is I don’t. We never got media training or anything of the sort.”
“I have been quoted in a recent interview saying “I’m Sorry”. What actually transpired was the journalist said to me you must be sorry for what you did, I agreed. I of course am sorry for the hurt that I caused my kids and the Keating family.”
He added: “I was in a relationship that was not working. If I had not gone through what I went through I would not have met the love of my life in Storm so for that I am truly grateful. I do not regret the end of my first marriage.”
