Caitríona Balfe to star in new horror series

Caitriona Balfe

Caitríona Balfe will be stepping into a very different role than we’re used to, as she has joined a new horror series.

The Outlander star bid farewell to the beloved romantic series earlier this year and it was certainly an emotional goodbye.

But she’s been keeping herself busy with a flurry of other work.

We got our first look at her new film, A Long Winter, this week which is based on Colm Tóibín’s short story.

The film stars The White Lotus’ Fred Hechinger and Heartstopper’s Kit Connor as her children. While The Bear’s Ebon Moss-Bachrach will play her husband.

But she will also make her return to TV in Apple TV’s Ascension, which is a new drama from Oscar winner Alfonso Cuarón.

The series is inspired by the novel Last Days by Adam Nevill.

According to Deadline: “Ascension explores evil and innocence at the highest level, while asking how far we’ll go – and what we’ll sacrifice – to protect the ones we love, even when the greatest threat to them may be ourselves.”

The psychological horror follows Caitríona’s character Rose as a “relentless” documentary maker. When she starts investigating a 20th-century cult known as the Church of Ascension, she finds solace in the information.

However, things are a lot darker than anyone could have expected when Rose originally started researching this organisation.

Creepy!

Caitríona will be next seen in the upcoming Sense and Sensibility alongside Daisy Edgar Jones.
