Vicki Notaro has just released her third novel, Anywhere But Here.
The book follows Matilda McGrath, an Irish TV presenter and a head-over-heels newlywed. However, when she discovers her husband isn’t who she thought he was her whole life is turned upside down.
We sat down with the glamorous author for our August issue where we picked her brain on how she writes.
Speaking about the inspiration behind her third book, she says: “I had one of those days where I literally said to myself, ‘I’d love to run away.’ And then I thought, where would I go?
“I always think of Donegal because my friend’s family are from there. And I grew up going up there with her as a teenager. I just always absolutely loved it. It feels like another world, especially the place where she is on the coast in Ardara. And that is kind of what
sparked it.”
Speaking about the characters, she reveals: “And then all of the individual characters kind of visited me as they tend to do when I am writing. With my first book, it was Dessie Daniels that came to me first; with this book, it was Matilda McGrath.”
