The 70th British Academy Film Awards took place at the Royal Albert Hall in London last night, and a whole host of US and European celebs were in attendance.

Although there were a number of deserving winners at the 2017 Baftas, the Irish sadly lost out. Costume designer Consolata Boyle was nominated for her work in Florence Foster Jenkins, but was unfortunately beaten by Madeline Fontaine for Jackie.

The most notable loss was for Irish-Ethiopian actress Ruth Negga. She was nominated for a coveted EE Rising Star award, which is voted on by the public, but she too went home empty handed. Winner of the award went to Tom Holland.

Fans were not happy about the result for the Loving star, and took to Twitter to express their frustrations, saying that Ruth deserved the prize more than anyone.

We’re still holding out for the Oscars, which take place on February 26th. Ruth is up for Best Actress, and we hope she takes home a gong.
