It’s good news for Peaky Blinders fans as the show’s creator, Steven Knight, has confirmed a spin off film is in the works.

The 63-year-old explained he is writing the script now, and hoping to be back in Birmingham filming sometime in the next 18 months.

Speaking on Heart radio, he said: “I can tell you that there’s going to be a film, a feature film.”

“I’m writing it right now. I mean, I’m nearly done writing it, and we’re going to shoot it… I’m setting up some film and television studios in Digbeth in Birmingham.”

While the writer kept coy on many details, he did reveal that some of the original cast will be returning, along with, “some new faces that will hopefully be quite surprising.

So hopefully Cillian Murphy, who played leading man Thomas Shelby will make an appearance.

As for when fans can expect the film, it seems the project will be a few years in the works.

As Steven explained: “I’m hoping that we’ll be shooting in… within 18 months, and then obviously we put it together. I mean it will depend on the distributors and things when it goes out.”

Cillian had previously opened up about returning for a Peaky Blinders’ film, expressing his interest but highlighting how the cast and crew needed a break.

Speaking to Deadline, he confessed: “I’d be as excited as anybody to read a script. But I think it’s good for everyone to have a little break.”

“That’s always a healthy thing and then we can regroup.”

“So I think when the time comes, if there’s more story to be told, I’ll be there.”
