We are used to seeing Mrs Brown’s Boys on our screens around the festive season.

The comedy series usually gets a two-part special airing on Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve.

But now the show will be coming back for a longer run later this year.

It has been revealed that a mini-series has been in the works for the last few years.

The four-part series was due to air in 2021 but has been pushed back twice due to COVID restrictions.

The four new episodes will be the first mini-series run on TV since 2013.

“This mini-series was actually planned for 2021,” Brendan O’Carroll, the man behind the show, shared.

“Having been thwarted twice, firstly by COVID-19 and then by a post-COVID shortage of studios, it’s fantastic to, at last, have the chance to make it happen. Fasten your seatbelts and hold onto your hats!”

Fiona, who plays the loveable Maria Brown on the show previously told RTÉ Guide: “In October we’ll be filming Mrs Brown: two Christmas specials and the first of a mini-series of four episodes, the other three early next year.”

“We were supposed to be doing a mini-series this year but, unfortunately, due to various different reasons it didn’t happen.”

“So, there is talk of it happening next year, a possible mini-series. It is not just down to us, it is down to studio time, it is down to crew and it is down to cast.”
