Former Miss Universe Ireland Grainne Gallanagh revealed she was “in denial” about being in love with her boyfriend, Ryan.
The model and her beau have been together for 9 years now, but things started slow as neither wanted to admit they were in love. Grannie told RSVP Live, “I knew very early on and I think he did too but we were both in denial trying to be cool.”
“We were very young as well and no one wanted to say it first. I knew in the first couple of months though.”
However, their feelings won out, and they ended up confessing their love. For Grainne, it was a certain song that inspired her confession. “I remember we were in the car when I was in college and that song ‘Call Me Maybe’ by Carly Rae Jepson came on.
“I started singing it and he started singing it too at the top of his lungs. I was like, ‘Nope, this is it. If I know he’s going to join in and know all the words to Call Me Maybe, that’s it, I’m sold’.”
While the pair are much more solid these days, there is one thing they disagree on. The Donegal native explained, “However, we still argue over who said ‘I love you’ first. I claim he did and he claims I did.”
“He said it on a night out and I said it sober. He claims that he didn’t but I remember that he did so he definitely said it first.”
Reflecting back on their relationship, the Dancing With The Stars alumni, also shared what their first Valentine’s was like. Saying, “It was when we first started seeing each other and we weren’t exclusive. I was in college, it was nine years ago now, and I invited him up to my house for the day.”
“He arrived with a Toffee Crisp which is my favourite chocolate bar. He didn’t want to get me a present and wanted to come off cool. I remember that always stuck with me because at the time I thought it was the nicest thing ever.”
During and Instagram Q and A, Grainne revealed that they met in school. Explaining, “We were friends in school. I’m laughing because he’s reading this over my shoulder.”
Before going on to clarify when they began their romance, saying, “We were friends in school and then we started to go out when we were in college.”
Ryan grew up in the same area as Grainne in Buncrana, Donegal, and the Miss Universe Ireland star shares the odd snap of the two on her Instagram.
