Rumours had swirled for months about the casting for the latest instalment in the Lord of the Rings franchise.

The Hunt for Gollum was announced last year, with beloved characters like Gandalf, Aragorn, Frodo and Gollum returning.

The original actors Ian McKellan and Andy Serkis will reprise their roles of Gandalf and Gollum.

However, it was confirmed that fan favourite Aragorn would be recast. This news sent fans into a tizzy, wondering who could replace Viggo Mortensen.

The internet was sent into meltdown when it was believed that Bridget Jones star Leo Woodall would take on the rugged role of Aragorn.

However, the official cast was announced at CinemaCon on Tuesday night.

Irish actor Jamie Dornan will take on the role of Strider/Aragorn.

Leo Woodall will star in the film, but in the role of Halvard.

The film will also feature Elijah Wood as he returns to the role of Frodo and Kate Winslet will join the franchise in the role of Marigol.

The Hunt for Gollum is set for a global release in December 2027 and will act as a prequel to the events of The Fellowship of the Ring.

Well we’ll definitely be rushing to the cinema for this one!
