Caitríona Balfe is a busy woman!
The series is inspired by the novel Last Days by Adam Nevill.
But before that, we’ll see her in an upcoming film entitled A Long Winter.
The film is based on Colm Tóibín’s acclaimed short story of the same name.
Caitríona will star as the mother of Fred Hechinger (The White Lotus, Gladiator II) and Kit Connor (Heartstopper, Warfare).
The film also stars Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear, The Fantastic Four: First Steps) as Caitríona’s husband and D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai (Warfare, Reservation Dogs) as a mysterious stranger.
So what can we expect from the film?
Set in 1950s Colorado, A Long Winter follows Mike, a young man living with his family in an isolated home in the mountains. After his brother, leaves to serve in the Korean War. Mike is left at home with his father and mother, but when his mother suddenly disappears, having struggled with the isolation of her life, Mike sets out to search for her amid the harsh winter landscape.
Her absence also forces him to confront his relationship with his father and begin questioning what he wants from his own life.
The film will be directed by Andrew Haigh who has strong Irish connections as he most recently worked on All of Us Strangers with Paul Mescal and Andrew SCott.
The film will be screened later this Autumn at the New York Film Festival (New York Premiere) and the Toronto International Film Festival (Canadian Premiere).
