Claudine Keane has opened up about the “emotional week” that herself and her family have had since her husband Robbie announced his retirement from international football. The Dubliner played his final game for the Republic of Ireland team last Wednesday in the Aviva stadium.
Speaking to The Herald, Claudine said that for the moment her family will be based in Los Angeles, while Robbie continues to play for LA Galaxy, but they would never say never on a move back to the Emerald Isle.
“I think we have to go where his career leads us.
“He has never hidden the fact that he loves football and wants to be involved. Whether that be in Ireland or wherever it may be. That will be the next journey for us,” she said.
The blonde bombshell has been back in Ireland for the last week with herself and Robbie’s two sons, 7-year-old Robert and 11-month-old Hudson, and she’s had a great trip even though it’s been an emotional time.
“I have only been back for a week. I was just here for the game and then a few more days – I stayed on for the weekend. It’s a short trip but it’s been really amazing. What an emotional week it’s been.
“I knew it was going to be high emotions. He was reading me his statement and I could barely keep myself together listening to it. It’s a bit surreal in a way.
“It’s hard when you’ve been doing it since you were a teenager and all this time he has had that responsibility of being the captain and playing for his country – to let that go is very difficult.
“It’s an amazing thing, it’s a good thing. It’s been a lovely weekend. It was the right time and it was great he had the opportunity to be able to thank the fans,” she said.
