We all know Dermot Bannon from his hit RTÉ show Room To Improve. He enters a house in need of a makeover and transforms it into a home full of architectural quirks of his own creation.
However, Dermot is now taking a different route in his new show Celebrity Super Spaces where he is no longer the one in charge, but rather there to observe how well-known faces put their own stamp on their homes.
And two of these lovely faces are best friends and podcast duo, Joanne McNally and Vogue Williams.
Although the pair are besties, like most friendships their styles are somewhat polar opposite, so getting the chance to see Dermot invade their homes to give us in the inside scoop is something we are all looking forward to.

We know that Dermot is not afraid to say how he feels, especially when it comes to design choices, and this show is no different.
Talking to the Irish Independent, Dermot says he’s not softening his reaction when it comes to these homes saying, “if somethings mad, I’ll say it. I’ll tell them – this is f***king crazy. Because that’s where the interesting stuff is.”
And after seeing Joanne McNally’s home, he didn’t hold back on what he had to say. It’s no surprise that her home in Clapham, London, is bright, colourful and quirky just like her personality and style.
Dermot said that the first thing he noticed as he walked into her space was the “flash” of decor with “big and bright colours and oversized pieces”. He was captured by the “cool garnish” of the space because, after all, she is the coolest gal we know.
Although the space is cool and full of style, what Dermot noticed the most was that this style took presentient over functionality, saying that Joanne’s choices were made over “how it looks” rather than practicality.

Joking about her space, Dermot shared an anecdote that the only practical thing in her home was an air fryer, which was used to hold her keys since she doesn’t try her hand at cooking very often!
“Everything has to be left of centre,” Dermot said, while his take on Joanne is that she is “almost afraid of being ordinary.”
He continued to observe her home filled with random style choices of “chairs that didn’t fit” and instead of new ones “she sawed the legs off them; that’s not design, that’s buying something for how it looks, and when I see that, I associate it with insecurity.”
Bannon was quick to push back on his view stating that this “fear of being ordinary is also what drives her. She works harder than almost anyone I’ve met.”

Vogue’s home in Howth, however, was something different. Filled less with bright bold pieces, but rather people. “It was literally overrun. Family, friends, people coming in and out all the time. It was never empty”, commented Dermot, saying that for Vogue, “luxury is having people around”.
“I’m fascinated by people who want their houses full all the time. People dropping in, staying over, kitchen full every weekend. I’m not that person,” he added.
Although Joanne and Vogue might have different styles, one thing for sure is that they make their spaces their own and very much mark their territory.
With a “Very pink” home, Dermot jokes that Vogue’s husband Spencer didn’t get a look in! “If you look at it, you wouldn’t think Spencer had much of a say. It felt like her base, and he comes over on holidays.”
Safe to say we are very excited to have a nose around their houses.
You can catch Celebrity Super Spaces on RTÉ One airing at 9:30pm on April 26th and May 3rd
