Actress Pauline McLynn has defended casting of Game of Thrones actor Aidan Gillen as comedian Dave Allen.
The 55-year-old will star in the BBC Two drama Dave Allen at Peace, and has revealed she thinks Gillen is the perfect casting for the role of Dave, who famously pointed out hypocritical political views and religious standings.
“The man obviously had a great sense of humour and could really see the absurdity in a lot of things.” Pauline told The Irish Mirror
Former Father Ted star Pauline, who also stars in Dave Allen At Peace, with Tommy Tiernan and Ian McElhinney, said Game of Thrones star Gillen is perfect for the role of Dave Allen.
“It’s brilliant casting, he doesn’t look unlike him and he’s got that charismatic thing. It’s a great compliment and testament to Aiden Gillen’s talent that he can cover both Haughey and Dave Allen.
“For me there isn’t anyone else who could play him.”
