Dancing with the Stars is going to be jampacked this year with the incredible celebrities taking to the dancefloor.
And it wouldn’t be the glittering show without a few sportspeople.
Thankfully the eighth contestant on the show has been revealed and is ready to take on that mantle.
Champion jockey Davy Russell has won the Grand National and the Cheltenham Cup.
He is one of Ireland’s most successful sportsmen.
He got his first professional win at Sedgefield over two decades ago in 2002.
His career soared to new heights over the next two decades. Notably, he secured high-profile victories, including the Gold Cup in 2014 on Lord Windermere and an impressive three wins in the Coral Cup.
His outstanding performances earned him the leading jockey award at Cheltenham in 2018. That year he also won the 2018 Grand National at Aintree. In 2019, Davy won the Grand National again with the same horse, with Davy becoming the first jockey since Brian Fletcher in 1974 to win back-to-back Grand Nationals on the same horse.

He announced his retirement at the end of 2022.
On joining Dancing with the Stars Davy says: “It’s exciting. And it’s so very different to what I’m used to, it’s a new venture. It’s really hard to keep it a secret from friends and family, I have itchy fingers and I’m ready to pull the trigger. My wife always told me we need to get dancing lessons before our wedding. I said no, and now I’m regretting this decision.”
