Eoghan McDermott has opened up about reuniting with girlfriend Aoife Melia, after spending seven years apart.
The broadcaster had been living the single life ever since he split from top model Jo Archbold back in May, but now he’s officially off the market once more, after rekindling an old flame with his college sweetheart.
Eoghan and Aoife were in a relationship while they were both in UCD but they parted ways seven years ago because they were in two different countries, and now that they’ve both returned home to Ireland they’ve decided to give their romance another go.
The 2fm DJ has said it’s been “lovely” getting to his former love the second time around.
“It’s been really lovely.” he told the Independent.ie. “It’s kind of this dual synergy thing going on where I feel like she’s a new person and visa versa and we’re getting to know each other.
“We went out years and years ago in UCD and she moved away for seven years and I had been in London for five of those seven years and so it’s just one of those random, chance happenings. We have all of this history so it’s lovely.”
Although it’s their first Christmas together in seven years, the loved up pair will only get the chance to spend a few fleeting moments together on Christmas day because of Aoife’s work commitments, but they will make up for it by spending New Year’s Eve together.
“Aoife’s a doctor, so she pulled the short straw and is working Christmas Day,” he said.
“Her family is in Galway so she’ll finish her shift and head home to Galway, so I’ll see her for an hour hopefully. She’s working Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, so we’ll do New Year’s Eve.”
