Des Bishop has opened up about his recent break-up. The comedian had been in a long distance relationship with Chinese actress Xuan Xuan since 2014.
The former Dancing With The Stars contestant admitted that although the couple still love each other, they simply couldn’t make it work with the distance.
Speaking to the Independent Des said, “Let’s call a spade a spade. She would’ve had to drop everything, because I could support her but she couldn’t support me.
“It was one of those things- we still love each other, but with travel and visas and everything it just became very difficult.”
The 41-year-old also honestly revealed that he had emotionally checked out of the relationship before the couple called it quits, and the feeling was mutual for his ex.
“I was like: ‘I already have apartments in Dublin, London and New York. I don’t need one in Beijing, but, I mean, I’ll lie to you if you want.’
“It’s quite interesting breaking up with someone in Chinese. I was telling her, ‘I don’t really know what to say,’ but I meant it quite literally; I was like, ‘I just don’t have the words, so I’m just going to have to leave it there.’
“She started wishing me well. I could tell that was the Chinese way of doing things. To a degree, I had emotionally moved on by that stage; maybe she had too,” he said.
