Davy Russell has witnessed the highs and the lows of Dancing with the Stars.

He has received scores of four to topping the leaderboard last week and meaning he has immunity in the dance-off on Sunday night.

Thankfully, he has a strong support system with his family, as well as fellow jockey Nina Carberry.

She was crowned Dancing with the Stars champ in 2022 and she has been “very supportive” to Davy.

“Nina would message me after every show. She is very supportive. I was very unaware of what was ahead of me,” he tells VIP Magazine.

“I’ve been like that the whole way through my career. I never really put too much thought into it. I didn’t realise the effort and the time as well as the enjoyment I would get out of this process.”

Of course, he enthuses about all the incredible people he has met over the last few weeks.

“Or the types of people you meet – from my partner Kylee to the choreographers, the lighting, the makeup and the hair. It’s a whole new world to me. The fake tan! I’m being educated in a whole different array of things!”

Dancing with the Stars continues on RTÉ One on Sunday at 6:30pm
