Cillian Murphy nabs first Oscar nomination

Cillian Murphy has landed his first ever Oscar nomination.

Yes, he has been tipped to walk away victorious for his role as J Robert Oppenheimer in the Christopher Nolan film.

Unfortunately, Cillian is the only Irish actor who has been nominated for an Oscar this year.

Yes, the likes of Barry Keoghan, Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal have all missed out on the Academy Awards.

Oppenheimer leads the Oscar nominations with 13 nods, these include Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr and Best Supporting Actress for Emily Blunt.

Christopher Nolan has been nominated for Best Director, which will surprise no one.

While Cillian is the only Irish actor, we can also claim Irish produced Poor Things as an Irish win!

It has received 11 nominations including Best Lead Actress for Emma Stone, Best Supporting Actor for Mark Ruffalo and Best Director for Yorgos Lanthimos.

Cillian is now the bookie’s favourite to win Best Actor at the annual Oscars. He is up against Bradley Cooper for Maestro, Colman Domingo for Rustin, Paul Giamatti for The Holdovers and Jeffrey Wright for American Fiction.

The 96th Academy Awards will be held on March 10th, Sunday. So watch this space!
