What a gent! Domhnall Gleeson gives back to local charity

The actor helps an Irish charity through the Star Wars franchise

Star Wars actor Domhnall Gleeson will be raising money for Dublin based charity, St. Francis Hospice in Raheny, through the film franchise.

Fifteen members of cast & crew have decided on their chosen charities to be included in the film’s foundation, Star Wars: Force for Change, through Omaze. The foundation was set up last year in an effort to solve some of the worlds biggest problems.

Disney and LucasFilms, who set up the foundation, are offering an incredible prize to two lucky Star Wars fans. They are in with a chance of winning a ticket to the US and UK premiere, walk the red carpet, meet the cast of The Force Awakens, and attend the film’s after party. To be in with a chance of winning all fans are asked to do is donate €9 to Star Wars: A Force for Change.

The amount you donate corresponds with how many times you enter the competition. Fans won’t go home empty handed though because there are a range of prizes on offer for different donation amounts. For example, if you donate €94 you could get a Star Wars t-shirt. Other smaller prizes include artwork, and even a Stormtrooper suit.

While Domhnall has chosen a charity close to his heart other stars have picked charities close to theirs. Lupita Nyong’o has put forward The Africa Foundation, JJ Abrams picked the Malala Fund, and Mark Hamill has chosen Feed America. Last year €4million was raised and they hope to make the same amount this year.

A spokeswoman for the hospice told The Herald that “everyone at St. Francis Hospice is very excited. Brendan, Domhnall and Brian are all very good to us. They’ve done so much for the hospice.” Domhnall, along with his Dad and brother, recently appeared in a video for the charity single 2025 by Squarehead, for the hospice.
