Beverley Callard has opened up about the moment that she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
The Coronation Street legend recently relocated to Ireland and has made Carrigstown her new soap home.
However, just moments before shooting her first scene on Fair City, she learned that she had breast cancer.
Speaking about the moment she said: “Obviously, it was a massive shock. I got the diagnosis ten minutes before I started to shoot my very first scene on my very first day on Fair City.”

She told Oliver Callan on his RTÉ Radio 1 show that she is “doing okay”.
“I was numb really. It took a little while for it to sink in. I went to work, mainly because you would just sit at home thinking about it. I felt really safe here for that first month I was here.
“I just thought I would say it on the Late Late Show and nobody could twist my words. I got such a response. I started talking about it on social media. The response has been amazing.”
She explained that she had undergone radiotherapy and will be getting an update in September about her treatment.
The soap star added that she has made Ireland her permenant home and will “never go back to the UK”.
“I love the UK and I love Norfolk but this has something special. John thinks the same. John and I have got five children between us, they’re all grown up, we can’t get rid of them. They keep coming over,” she shared.
She added: “Honestly, Wicklow town, I am in love with it. Ashford town – I’m in love with it. When I am better in a few months time I am going to be teaching my fitness classes in Wicklow for the women of Wicklow because there’s some feisty women there.”
