‘We’ll blow you asunder or set fire to your house’ Gay Byrne reveals shocking death threats

Gay Byrne has opened up about the shocking death threats he has received over the course of his career.

The former Late Late Show presenter was targeted but thugs, particularly during his time on the hit RTE show.

While people made some horrific threats, Gay brushed them off, as he believed if people were really out to hurt him, they’d do so without forewarning.

Speaking to the Irish Independent, the he said, “There were threats on my life. They came in the form of letters saying, ‘We’ll blow you asunder or set fire to your house.’

“They were never anything I took seriously, mind. I believe that if someone genuinely intended to kill you, he wouldn’t actually write you to alert you that this was going to happen.”

Meanwhile, the broadcaster turned 82 last week, and puts his current good health, down to looking after himself properly.

Speaking to the Herald, he said, “I have remarkably good health and I’m grateful at that. I’ve arrived at the tender age of 82 in one piece and feel upright, much to everybody’s surprise, including my own.

“Thank God I’ve enjoyed robust good health all my life, I had a little heart setback earlier this year and I have been told to look after myself with a little more care, but so far I am doing fine.”

Well we’re glad to hear he’s doing so well!
