Simon Cowell may be known for some of the biggest bands in the world.

One Direction being just one of many.

But he sometimes gets it wrong. And we mean very wrong.

Specifically when it comes to Westlife.

Yes, he has revealed that when he first heard Westlife he wasn’t interested in taking the band on.

Speaking to Rebecca and Brendan from 98FM’S Big Breakfast he confessed: “Westlife is an example, you know the first time I saw them, I said to Louis, ‘I’m not interested, I think you gotta change some of the people’.

“The second time I saw them, which was about four months later, within 30 seconds I turn around to them and I said ‘I don’t need to hear anymore, the lawyers are gonna call you tomorrow, we’re offering you a deal.’.”

He went on to say: “It’s not to say you always get it right, but fortunately, my track record is I’ve got it right more times than I got it wrong and honestly the only way you could do this is do what I’m doing, which is go out on the road which is go out on the road and pray enough people turn up.”

Simon is currently on the hunt for the next big boy band. He is set to make a reality show out of the whole thing inspired by the Formula 1 documentary, Drive to Survive on Netflix.

“I talked to a company, because I love this show ‘Drive to Survive’, you know the F1 show. I went to meet them and I said ‘I’m thinking about putting together a boyband how would you feel about making a documentary about it, and we’ll show everything’ and they went ‘Definitely’.”
