Shane MacGowan’s wife, Victoria Mary Clarke, paid tribute to her late husband who sadly passed away last week.

She has been active on social media, sharing memories of The Pogues frontman.

Victoria stated that the singer still had a smile on his face “right until the last” alongside a picture of Shane.

She wrote: “Shane was always able to smile right until the last and his smile had a way of lightning up everyone around him no matter how much he was struggling or in pain.

“I hope this smile can still work its magic.”

She also shared that she was praying for other people who have recently lost loved ones.

“It’s so hard to believe that someone could be so vibrant and beautiful and so determined to live only a few days ago,” she wrote with a picture of Shane.

“But so many people are losing loved ones all over the world. My prayers are for all of you guys as Shane’s would be.”

Shane shared how much he loved Victoria before he passed, telling VIP Magazine: “It was in my twenties when I met Victoria. I fell in love with her the minute I saw her. She told me to ‘f*** off’ the first time I spoke to her and I was mesmerised. We didn’t get together for four years.”

Shane passed away at the age of 65.

Victoria confirmed the news on social media: “I don’t know how to say this so I am just going to say it.

“Shane who will always be the light that I hold before me and the measure of my dreams and the love of my life and the most beautiful soul and beautiful angel and the sun and the moon and the start and end of everything that I hold dear has gone to be with Jesus and Mary and his beautiful mother Therese.

“I am blessed beyond words to have met him and to have loved him and to have been so endlessly and unconditionally loved by him and to have had so many years of life and love and joy and fun and laughter and so many adventures.

“There’s no way to describe the loss that I am feeling and the longing for just one more of his smiles that lit up my world. Thank you thank you thank you thank you for your presence in this world you made it so very bright and you gave so much joy to so many people with your heart and soul and your music.

“You will live in my heart forever. Rave on in the garden all wet with rain that you loved so much. You meant the world to me.”

Rest in peace, Shane.
