Shane MacGowan’s funeral procession route confirmed

Shane MacGowan’s funeral will take place this Friday.

A funeral procession will take place in Dublin before he is laid to rest in Tipperary where he spent his early years.

Shane’s coffin will be taken by a horse-drawn carriage and led by the Artane Band from 10:30am to 11:45am.

The procession will start in Ringsend at 10:30am, this is close to where Shane and his wife Victoria Mary Clarke lived.

His coffin will arrive by hearse at Shelbourne Park Greyhound Stadium where it will be transferred to a horse-drawn carriage.

The Artane Band a a piper will then lead the carriage and family cars onto South Lotts Road, across McMahon Bridge, down Pearse Street to Westland Row.

The procession will then cross over to Lincoln Place into Fenian Street and onto Denzille Lane, where Shane’s coffin will be transferred back into the hearse.

The hearse and family cars will leave for Nenagh in Tipperary. Shane’s funeral mass will take place in St Mary of the Rosary Church on Friday afternoon.

The mass will be open to the public.

The funeral is expected to be attended by Uachtarán Michael D Higgins as well as some of the biggest names in the music industry.

More details will be announced about his funeral mass as the week progresses.
