Ruth Negga has been nominated in the Best Actress category at this year’s Oscars. She was given the nod for her role as Mildred in the historical drama, Loving.
The Oscar nominations were revealed this afternoon and Irish-Ethiopian born Ruth is set to battle it out against Natalie Portman, Meryl Streep, Emma Stone and Isabelle Huppert for the coveted gong.
This isn’t the first high-profile award that Ruth has been nominated for this awards season. She was up for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama at the Golden Globes but unfortunately lost out to Emma Stone. She’s also nominated for a BAFTA Rising Star Award.
Other Irish stars nominated for Oscars this year are Colin Farrell’s film The Lobster for Best Original Screenplay, and Dublin designer Consolata Boyle has been nominated as Best Costume Design for Florence Foster Jenkins.
