Paul Mescal hasn’t spoken to Russell Crowe about Gladiator sequel

Paul Mescal is set to take on the biggest role of his life in the coming months.

The actor will appear as the star of the sequel to the iconic Gladiator.

Our Paul is set to play Lucius, who is understood to be the nephew of Commodus, who was played by Joaquin Phoenix.

Of course, the original film really kickstarted Russell Crowe’s career, who helmed the Oscar-nominated movie.

However, Paul has now revealed that he hasn’t spoken to the Aussie actor about his role.

Speaking to Esquire Magazine, he confessed: “I don’t know what we would talk about.

“I’d love to hear his stories from filming, but the character is, like, totally separate.”

Just because Paul hasn’t spoken to Russell doesn’t mean he hasn’t given him the seal of approval.

Speaking to Ryan Tubridy on his Radio 1 show, he said: “I hear that young fella Paul is a good dude, I wish him the best of luck with it. I think where they’re picking the story up is with young Lucius stepping into the role of Emperor.

“I think that’s a very smart idea within the world of film we created.”

Paul stars in the lead role of Lucius, son of Lucilla who was played by Connie Neilsen.

The Danish actor will be returning to reprise her role in the sequel and is among the few original cast to appear.

The film also stars Pedro Pascal, Fred Hechinger, Denzel Washington, Matt Lucas and Joseph Quinn.

It is understood the film will pick up 25 years on from where the first film left off with Paul at the helm this time around.
