Mairead Farrell has officially changed her name after getting married in a gorgeous ceremony last Friday.
Before the wedding, the radio star told of her plans to buck the modern trend and take her husband Louis’ name, and true to her word, the DJ has changed her Twitter name to Mairead Ronan just days after the nuptials.
The wedding ceremony took place in country Tipperary, just outside Clonmel, where the groom is a native of. The Dublin girl travelled down South to celebrate in country-inspired style with close family and friends, as well as her fellow radio stars, in what became an intimate and relaxed affair.
The guest-list included fellow media broadcasters Ray D’Arcy and his wife Jenny, Ian Dempsey, Anton Savage, Marian Finucine and Louise Duffy among others. Looking her usual exquisite self, the bride wore a dazzling white silk dress complete with a full veil, swept back over her flowing dark locks.
Mairead [35] is clearly in favour of tradition, opting to take her husband’s name despite the slight controversy her announcement was met with, with questions raised on what some called an ‘out of date’ custom.
TV3’s Midday even tweeted about whether Mairead was losing her identity, to which the Today FM star snapped back: “Ah lads, get a grip.”
Speaking about the change, she simply explained: “I can’t be two people.”
