Despite a miserable summer so far, the sun gods shone down on Today FM star Mairead Farell for her wedding day.
“It doesn’t matter if it’s a storm – I’m marrying the man of my dreams so it’ll be sunny in my head,” said Mairead.
And it was indeed a glorious day for broadcasting star and producer of Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show, Mairead Farrell, as she wed businessman Louis Ronan at St. Michael’s Church, Ballyclearhan, just 10k from Clonmel in the groom’s native county Tipperary.
The bride (35) looked stunning on the day, but was almost but not quite upstaged by the best man – her adorable son Dara, 8, who even wrote his own speech!
Indeed, so capable is young Dara that he even organised the groom’s stag party, which was a private viewing for 12 guests of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in Dublin city centre’s Brooks Hotel!
Mairead was previously married to advertising executive and father to Dara, Eamon Fitzpatrick, but they announced their separation in 2010. Mairead went on to meet Louis three years ago, and they became engaged last August with a romantic proposal in Tuscany.
And while Mairead is obviously quite the catch for Louis, it seems she didn’t do too badly herself either. Not only did he wow her with said romantic proposal, but he also took control of most of the wedding plans, as well as organising a honeymoon whose location Mairead didn’t even know!
Bucking the modern trend, Mairead announced that she is going to take Louis’ surname as her married name, despite her being so well-known as Mairead Farrell. “I’m going to change it,” she insisted. “I can’t be two people!”
Guests on the day included Mairead’s former Today FM colleagues Ray D’Arcy and Jenny Kelly.
