“I’ve almost been scammed about 20 times”: Lucy Kennedy delves into the “scary” world of scamming

We spend most of our days now screening texts and calls and emails from strangers. Are they real? Are they scams?

It seems like scams have taken an uptake in recent years and are much more sophisticated. More people are falling victim to them.

Lucy Kennedy has decided to delve into the murky underbelly of the world of scams in her new series, Real Lives with Lucy.

“People have always asked me why I don’t go to live with “real people”. So this is what this show is about,” she tells VIP Magazine as we chat at the Virgin Media Autumn Launch.

“This season we look at addiction, we look at the transgender community, we look at Mediums, who I am obsessed with and scammers. That was frightening, really, really scary. We’re all being scammed as I speak!”

She adds: “It’s an exploration into their lives. It’s all about them. I’m just asking the questions and learning. I don’t live with them, but I check in with them over the course of four months. I really get to know them, some really brilliant and brave people, really brave.”

The mam of three hopes that viewers are more educated after watching the four episodes.

“I am very aware that everyone who participated in this season really let me into their homes. And it was access all areas. They trusted me and it was such an honour,” she admits.

“I’ve almost been scammed about 20 times. I spend my life swiping away text message and Whatsapps, because I don’t know what’s real and what’s fake. I got to sit down with people who have been scammed and a guy who has been Catfished. It’s really scary stuff.”

But she stands by her show, saying that she is sure that people will learn a lot. Including her two eldest children, Jack and Holly.

“I’m going to make my oldest two children watch it because they have phones. I think it’s going to be really, really informative. We picked four topics that are current and people want to know more about.”

The first episode hits our screens on Monday 30th September at 9pm on Virgin Media One.
