Katja Mia has shared an honest and empowering insight into her health journey, opening up about her decision to use a GLP-1 medication over the past year.

Speaking in a new interview with the RTÉ Guide, the RTÉ 2FM presenter revealed she has been using a GLP-1 treatment since July 2025, explaining that the decision came after years of struggling with underlying health conditions.

GLP-1 medications work by mimicking a natural hormone that helps regulate blood sugar and appetite.

For Katja, however, the choice was never about quick fixes; it was about finally feeling well in herself.

After the interview was published, Katja took to Instagram to further address her experience in a candid video message to followers.

“First things first, I’m just going to say I don’t think we should be commenting on women’s bodies,” she said, explaining that she wanted to be “super transparent and honest” about her journey.

The newly-married star shared that she has been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease, hypothyroidism and endometriosis, conditions that she says impacted her hormones and made it difficult for her body to respond to diet and exercise in the way she had hoped.

“I was someone who was working out four or five times a week and eating in a calorie deficit, but I would gain weight instead of lose weight,” she explained, adding that blood tests revealed her thyroid antibodies were extremely high.

Katja described the treatment as “a game changer” for her personally, but stressed that her experience is her own.

“I’m not trying to encourage anyone to go on it. Your body is your choice at the end of the day,” she said, adding that she has “always been a curvy woman” and that her goal was never centred around a number on the scales, but rather feeling better internally.

She also emphasised that she continues to prioritise exercise and balanced eating, noting that she simply feels her efforts are now aligning with her health.

In the caption of her Instagram post, Katja admitted she felt vulnerable sharing her story, writing: “Sweaty hands and nervous posting this but just wanted to keep it real. This is NOT medical advice just my honest experience. (Please be kind)”.

Ultimately, Katja revealed she is now feeling the best she’s ever felt, and, most importantly, comfortable and confident in her own skin.
