Irish nominees miss out at this year’s Emmy Awards

The Emmy Awards finally took place on Monday night.

The television awards were pushed back from September due to the US actors’ and writers’ strikes.

Ireland was well represented on the night with Sharon Horgan being nominated in the Best Actress category for her role in Bad Sisters.

And that wasn’t Sharon’s only nomination as she was also up for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series, for her work on the episode The Prick, which she wrote alongside Dave Finkel and Brett Baer.

Director Dearbhla Walsh was nominated for Best Directing for a Drama Series. And Declan Lowney, who previously worked on Father Ted, was nominated for Best Directing for a Comedy Series for Ted Lasso.

However, no Emmy Award is making its way back to Ireland.

Sharon missed out on her win to Sarah Snook for her role as Shiv Roy in the final season of Succession.

And Succession really did lead the wins on the night as Mark Mylod picked up Best Directing for a Drama Series and Jesse Armstrong won for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series.

This means that Succession beat out Bad Sisters three times – ouch!

Christopher Storer who wrote and directed The Bear beat out Declan Lowney for Best Directing for a Comedy Series.

However, Ayo Edebiri did pick up Outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series for her role in The Bear. And as she’s an honourary Irish woman we’re taking it as a win!
