Irish actors lead the way in BAFTA nominations

Did you think that award season was over?

Absolutely not, because we have to talk about telly with the TV BAFTA Awards.

And thankfully, we have plenty to talk about as there were loads of Irish faces nominated this week.

Graham Norton and Sharon Horgan are among those nominated ahead of the awards ceremony which takes place on Sunday, May 12 at London’s Royal Festival Hall.

Graham’s late-night chat show The Graham Norton Show was nominated in the Comedy Entertainment category. Meanwhile the Corkman himself was shortlisted in the Entertainment Performance.

Sharon is nominated in the Leading Actress category for her performance in the BBC drama Best Interests, which also starred Irish newcomer Niamh Moriarty.

Irish actor Mairéad Ronan is also nominated in the Female Performance in a Comedy category for her Disney+ series Extraordinary. And Emma Moran, who created the series is nominated for her work as part of the writing team.

Belfast actor Roisín Gallagher is also nominated in the same category for The Lovers.

Éanna Hardwicke has been nominated in the Supporting Actor category for his performance in the BBC true-crime series The Sixth Commandment where he played murderer Ben Field.

It’s no surprise that The Crown leads the way with eight nominations.

The winners will be announced on Sunday, 12th May in London
