The first image of Niamh Algar in the medical drama Malpractice has been released, and it’s safe to say we’re already hooked!

The new five-part series has been described as a “cat and mouse thriller” and stars the likes of  James Purefoy, Brian Bovell and Jordan Kouame.

Nominated for both a TV Bafta last year for Deceit and a 2021 film Bafta for Calm With Horses, the Irish actress plays Dr Lucinda Edwards who has a patient die at the end of a nightmare shift.

Directed by Bafta-nominated Philip Barantini, known for Boiling Point, and written by former NHS doctor Grace Ofori-Attah, the new series will tell the story of a “damaged doctor” who is “caught up in a dangerous conspiracy.”

It will see the character Sir Anthony Owusu (Bovell), the father of Edith Owusu who died following an overdose, demand an investigation as Dr Edward’s medical supervisor Dr Leo Harris (Purefoy) supports her.

An inquiry into Edith’s death is then led by two doctors, one of which believes the death was unavoidable.

While another practitioner, who is played by Irish actress Helen Behan, believes there is more to Dr Edwards’s behaviour.

Among this, Niamh’s character is also battling marriage difficulties with her husband Tom, played by Vigil star Lorne MacFadyen.
