Fair City actress Clelia Murphy has opened up about falling pregnant in her early twenties, and how she felt about raising her daughter on her own.
Speaking to the Irish Independent’s Mother and Babies magazine 40-year-old Clelia admitted that she had a lot of support from her own mum, and feels that a man wouldn’t have been up for the challenge.
“I had Clarabelle so young and because I had her on my own, not only did my life change, but she was very much the structure for how my life then carried on.
“I was very lucky, I had my mum and grandparents so they were a great support. I think I was better off being a single parent because I don’t think any man could have done the job that my extended family did, and I don’t think any man could have stuck around while we all did it,” she said.
The soap star also told the mag that her daughter is now 18 years old, and like most mums, she is finding the reality that her little girl is now an adult, somewhat difficult.
“Clarabelle was 18 in May, so I am now a parent to an adult and that has brought me a completely different perspective on things. I am only getting used to it, the fact that I can send her to the shop for a bottle of Pinot Grigio, not that I would,” she said.
They grow up so fast!
