After 15 years of fronting Ireland AM, Mark Cagney has revealed he is going through a “career crisis”.
Speaking exclusively to VIP, the TV3 star has opened up about how he isn’t sure of how much longer he can present the show.
“I’m going through a career crisis! I’ve been asking myself ‘How much longer can I do this for?” he said.
The host admitted that he has found the past year difficult due to health complications, which has had a huge impact on him.
“This last year has been tough. I finally went in and got my back done…a double lumbar and fusion. It went well but major surgery takes its toll.”
“When I was in hospital I got pneumonia. And that actually caused me more problems than the surgery,” he revealed.
The 58-year-old also said he finds himself growing weary of the 3 a.m starts that the job involves.
“Honestly, if there was something else that piqued my interest, I’d walk away. That’s not to say I’m unhappy with it, or I don’t love it, or that I don’t love the people I work with… I mean I’ve helped build the thing and I wouldn’t walk away from it easily.
“But I would walk away if the right thing came along.”
