Donal Skehan has given fans a glimpse at his home renovations, sharing his plans for the most important room in the chef’s house – the kitchen.
Given fans a tour on his Instagram stories, Donal explained how their kitchen work was going. Beginning: “So Kitchen has been ripped out, as you can see. It’s in absolute tatters.”
But despite its current appearance, the Dublin is looking forward to the finished results, revealing that he will be installing Neptune by Global Village units, and Smeg appliances.
“Its a very small kitchen, but its actually going to be very functional. Even before we ripped it out, it was quite functional,” he explained.
The kitchen will be split between two spaces, with the appliance area being separated by an archway. As the TV chef detailed: “The theory is that here the two units, one is the fridge freezer, one is the pantry style. Then bench situation across here, two units, and then that kind of leads us into the kitchen.”
Donal also shared how “this is an interim kitchen, the dream kitchen is out there, its just not quite there yet.”
Sharing how they intend to incorporating their current plans into a future kitchen, he said: “The intention is that we’ll take whatever we’ve used here, in this slightly smaller space, into the next iteration of kitchen, if that ever happens. But nice to have something nice in the interim while we’re planning, and dreaming and stuff like this.”
“By the looks of things, its looking pretty good.”
The father-of-two also shared some advise with followers, after having to clear out an area for painting next week.
“The amount of boxes, if I can give you one piece of advice, if you’re sitting on your sofa tonight and you’re living very happily in your house, you probably have a load of **** you can get rid of, cause I have just learned that I have been collecting a lot of **** for a very long time, and know I’ve had to sort through it. Do the Marie Kondo thing, if it doesn’t bring you joy, get rid of it,” he cautioned.
Donal and his wife Sofie announced they had purchased their first home in February.
Sharing the news on Instagram, he wrote: “We got the keys! Our first home! It’s been 17 years as renters and today we are finally bloody homeowners! The last few years have been madness as we’ve moved home to Ireland from LA with 4 house moves in 3 years with 2 kiddos (oh and that whole pandemic yoke!!!). With so much uncertainty it’s exciting to finally put down roots close to home.”
“There’ve been many sleepless nights and stress over the last year or so trying to get it all done, definitely a story for another day, so let’s just say we are very grateful to have the keys in our hands today!”
“Huge thank you to everyone who has been on the journey with us. Time to get cracking on how to turn the very cute shell of house into a home and dream up some kitchen & veggie garden plans! YEOW!”
