Amanda Byram and her partner of two years, TV producer Julian Okines, had only just returned from a holiday in Argentina, when the 42-year-old Dublin beauty took to Twitter to announce the fact that they had got engaged in a charmingly off-beat manner.
Amanda had been dating Julian for over a year before she even revealed his name, having endured heartache before in her life. Her love life has not been a straightforward one, having been involved in two long-term relationships – one with comedian Patrick Kiely, who went on to marry Cat Deely, the other with rugby player Craig McMullen – neither of which worked out, as a result of which she was left emotionally scarred.
“I got to a point where I was 38 when I cancelled a wedding,” she revealed. “I had been in these two big relationships that ended and to be honest with you, I was looking at being very single for a long time and beginning to think, ‘OK if this is how it’s going to be, maybe I’m not meant to be in a long-term relationship, maybe I need to accept this and treasure it.
When she appeared on the Late Late Show in May of last year, however, she finally revealed who he was, and then brought him along to the Pride of Ireland Awards in Dublin’s Mansion House that month.Speaking about Julian, Amanda said that “I feel lucky that I got to be in a place where I was happy being single, comfortable in my own company, because I think that made me ready, kid of relaxed enough to come out the other side of a very bad patch and meet somebody special. I remember thinking one day, ‘OK universe, I’m ready now,’ and then I met Julian.”
