While Ireland’s brightest and most glamorous stars took to the red carpet at the Irish Film and Television Awards last night, one invited guest was not in attendance – but we reckon he had a pretty good excuse.
Michael Fassbender, a patriarch of modern Irish film and a celebrated actor overseas, was seen partying in Monaco with his girlfriend Alicia Vikander, into the early hours of the morning.
Fresh off the promotion of his latest film, Macbeth, Michael opted to indulge in a little off time with his love, also an actor, Circuit de Monaco, joining international celebrities such as Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid and the competing Louis Hamilton.
After taking in the splendour of the Grand Prix, the Irish actor ditched the IFTA’s in favour of a soiree in the South of France. The Frank star, along with the likes of Jamie Dornan, Liam Neeson and Colin Farrell, who were expected to grace Dublin’s Mansion House, left many fans disappointed by their absence at the awards, itself one of Ireland’s most prestigious calendar events.
In the past, the actor has been known to display a mixed validation to his nationality in relation to his Hollywood status. One hopes the Kerry man will remember his roots while his career provides him with the opportunity to make new connections around the world.
But that kind of non-chalent exterior gives him away – Fassbender is as Irish as they come, whether he wants to admit it or not.
