Soundtrack to her Life: Lyra

From the songs that empower her to the artists that inspire her, Cork superstar Lyra, shares her playlist…

Lyra, when on the go, who do you listen to?

Sia; London Grammar; Hozier.

What’s on your playlist now?

Mumford and Sons’, Good People. Hozier’s, Eat Your Young. Miley Cyrus’, Flowers. Teddy Swims’, Lose Control.  Billie Eilish’s, What Was I Made For, Sam Smith’s, Unholy.

What do you listen to when you want a pick-me-up?

Haim’s, Now I’m In It. I mean, try to listen to that and not smile and dance around with your hairbrush-microphone! It’s so feel-good.

When you’re low, where does your music choice go?

Adele, I mean she is the queen of sad. But a good sad. Like a powerful sad that gives you a big hug through the speakers.

What albums do you listen to on repeat?

Adele, 21 and Lorde, Pure Heroine.

Which artists do you most admire?

Sia and Beyoncé.

Most powerful gig you’ve attended?

Beyoncé. It was mind blowing and extremely inspiring. Taking four years to create that show really proves her dedication to art and to her fans. I have massive respect for that.

Favourite gig you’ve played?

Main Stage, Electric Picnic – magical. I’ll never forget it.

What piece of music are you most proud of?

A song that’s coming on my debut album called Queen; I just love it. I wrote it to empower myself, and every time I hear it I feel like a bad a*s who lives life by my own rules.

Describe your writing process…

It’s a feeling for me, an urge of emotions that come pouring out. Every song I write comes from an experience I have had, from something that moved me greatly. Each song is very personal and it has to be that way in order to get the best out of myself.

When you look to the future, where do you see yourself?

Hopefully alive and other than that having my first number one album, touring America and Europe while creating album two.

Lyra’s new single, Chess, is out now, with a new album to follow in March. Her nationwide tour starts on the 5th of February and runs until the 31st March. She plays 3Olympia on the 24th of February and 15th March, Lyra.ie for details.
