Simon Cowell blames Niall Horan’s “lack of loyalty” for his solo track failing to make number one

The singer's debut single hasn't done as well as expected in the charts.

Simon Cowell has blamed Niall Horan’s “lack of loyalty” as the reason he failed to reach number one in the Irish charts with his debut single, This Town.

The One Direction star released his first solo track last month and despite receiving rave reviews and support from his former bandmates, the single only reached 6th position in the Irish charts.

Although One Direction are signed to Simon Cowell’s, Syco Records, Niall decided he wanted to go with Capitol Records for his solo venture -and Simon was quick off the mark to make a sly dig at the Mullingar native failing to reach number one with the rival company.

“He probably would have had a No 1 single if he’d stayed with me.” he told the Sunday Mirror.

“But you know who does have a No 1 this week? James Arthur. Very pleased he’s back with us with a fantastic record. Hashtag loyalty.”

We think Niall’s new song is brilliant -check it out here:
