The Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan tragically lost his mother Therese on New Year’a Day, following a car crash in Tipperary.
Shane’s partner Victoria Mary Clarke was the first to be informed of the accident, and admitted that she was devastated, and struggled with how to tell Shane what had happened.
Appearing on Today with Maura and Daithi Victoria said, “I was very, very, very shocked. I bawled my eyes out thinking how am I going to say it to him.
“I couldn’t figure out what to say to him. It took me at least an hour to say it. At first he didn’t believe it.
“He said, ‘No, couldn’t have happened. Not possible.’ Then he began thinking.”
The 59-year-old previously thanked well wishers for their kind words after his mother’s death, writing on Twitter, “God bless to all the people who are offering kind words and condolences. It means a lot.”
