Irish rugby player Johnny Sexton has opened up about his home life, and the kind of dad that he is. The fly-half admitted that when it comes to his parenting skills, he’s most definitely the fun one.
Speaking to the Herald, Johnny said that when he comes home after a tough day of training he likes to relax and enjoy some time with two-year-old Luca and 8-month-old Amy.
“I am the fun parent I think. It’s easy to do that because I come home from training every day and I have a few hours with them and one day at the weekend so that’s the way it happens. I’d be the soft parent definitely. I get in trouble over that,” he said.
The 31-year-old has been married to longterm love Laura Priestly for three years, and admitted that since settling down it can be difficult juggling his career and home life. However, he said after struggling with it last year, he feels that he’s now found the balance between the two.
“It’s hard to come home from training when you are physically tired. It’s hard to strike that balance between recovery and rest and also spending time with the kids.
“With more responsibility off the pitch, it can be hard to get the balance right. Last year I struggled and I was injured a lot, but I think I’ve got that balance right now.”
