A massive congratulations is in order as sports pundit Richie Sadlier and wife Fiona have welcomed their first child.
The couple are now parents to a baby boy, who they have named Sam.
Richie announced the news on Instagram, sharing a snap of the little one holding his hand. Writing: “Parents, at last.”
“Delighted to share the happy news that Fiona gave birth to our gorgeous little son, Sam, last Friday. I won’t even try and put into words how incredible this past week has been for us, but for now, just wanna say a huge thanks for all the lovely messages and well-wishes we received throughout the pregnancy. It was lovely knowing there were so many people rooting for this chapter of our story to have a happy ending.”
“The biggest thanks of all goes to Fiona for never giving up hope that one day we’d feel this way.”
The new parents received plenty of congratulations in the comment section.
Former Miss Universe Rosanna Davison wrote: “Oh I’m so happy for you both!! Welcome to the world baby Sam. Huge congratulations, enjoy all those newborn snuggles.”
Broadcaster Síle Seoige said: “Awww this is the best news!! Welcome to the world Sam Sadlier. Well done Momma and we’re so happy for yee. Enjoy the magic newborn cuddles and remember that the broken sleep won’t last forever!!”
Footballer Stephanie Roche commented: “So happy for you both Richie! congratulations!”
Richie and Fiona have been open about the struggles with fertility in the past. The couple, who got married three years ago, were told by specialists they could not conceive naturally.
But back in August, Richie shared the amazing news of their pregnancy. Sharing a picture of them holding an image of their ultrasound, he wrote: “Four years after being told we couldn’t conceive naturally, and umpteen fertility consultations, scans, injections, embryo transfers, tears, hugs, and negative pregnancy tests later … I’m bloody delighted to share the news that my amazing wife @fionaward25 is now 15 weeks pregnant …. naturally!”
He continued: “I know everyone finds their own way through challenges like this, but we chose to speak openly to friends and family about what we were going through from day one, so we got their support when we needed it and the space when we asked for it.
“So grateful for all for the encouragement, support, solidarity and love we received along the way, and big hugs to anyone out there currently travelling the same path.”
