Activist Paddy Smyth teases new BBC show on the Platinum VIP Style Awards red carpet

Paddy Smyth

Paddy Smyth is no stranger to TV.

The activist got his big break when he was crowned the winner of The Circle in 2019.

Now he is set to wade into the world of TV once again as he is creating his own series on the BBC.

In May, he began working as a creator in residence with the UK’s national broadcaster hinting at what his first production would be.

Now he tells us at the Platinum VIP Style Awards that the series will focus on disabled people.

I can tell you it’s a show and I’ve created it, but I can’t tell you exactly what it is. But it’s going to be good,” he teases in his usual good spirits.

However, when we joke that it may be Love Island-esque, he gives us a knowing smile. The influencer is a massive fan of the reality dating series and he’s no stranger to that side of things either.

“It’s about disabled people and showing them in a different light and we’re not this worthy victim which is shown in media,” he simply says.

Paddy previously announced his career move, writing on Instagram, “This is a pinch-me moment….”

“Creative writing and thinking of television concepts has always been a huge passion of mine!!!

“That’s why I can’t believe I’m actually writing this… But a few months ago I pitched an idea to @bbcstudiostalentworks and today I finally get to share the news that I am starting a 6 month Creator in Residency with @bbcstudios Talentworks in collaboration with @meta where I will try make my pitch come to life and gain first hand knowledge of what it takes to get a commission with their guidance.

“I also will be working along side 3 other fabulous creators who have been chosen as we work together to try and make our dreams a reality.”
