Thousands of One Direction fans were left devastated in Belfast last night when the band cancelled their concert last minute, and the lads have taken to Twitter to send their apologies.

The Directioners were shocked when it was announced in the SSE Arena that singer Liam Payne had taken ill, and the band would be unable to perform. Liam was pictured on the group’s Facebook page just 2 hours looking the picture of health, causing further confusion about his mystery illness.

The sudden cancellation came after the band – including Mullingar’s Niall Horanstormed the 3Arena in Dublin with three gigs.

Last night’s concert was supposed to be the first of three in Belfast before the band takes a break from performing, which they claim is just for a year, and they are scheduled to be back on stage tonight.

The band members have been posting apologies on Twitter, with Niall writing: “So sorry we have had to cancel tonight guys. Unfortunately these things happen… Thank you to all who came down tonight!”
