Michael Flatley has channelled his inner Liam Neeson as he takes on the big screen.
The news had been announced in 2018 that Michael was set to become a big Hollywood star in the film Blackbird.
Now we have our first look at the film ahead of its release later this year.
So what is Blackbird about?
The film features Lord of the Dance legend Michael Flatley as a secret agent turned nightclub owner. Flatley plays Victor Blackley, aka Blackbird, a retired M16 spy who tries to escape his troubled past by opening a nightclub in the Caribbean.
The film had its world premiere at the Monaco Film Festival where Flatley picked up the Best Actor award for his role.
But now it will finally hit cinemas in Michael’s beloved Ireland in September.
The Riverdance creator isn’t the only well known face in the upcoming spy thriller. It will also star Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight), Patrick Bergin (Sleeping With The Enemy), Nicole Evans (Captain America) and Ian Beattie (Game of Thrones).
Sinéad O’Connor has apparently also recorded a song for the film.
Speaking about the Irish release of his film, Michael said, “‘I’m thrilled to be releasing Blackbird in cinemas across Ireland. The pandemic has brought about many unprecedented production delays, but we’re finally there.
“We filmed many scenes in Ireland, so premiering here was always the first choice. There’s nothing more breath-taking than the Irish landscape.”
He continued, “We’ve all put a lot into this project, and for me, it’s very personal. This was a new endeavour for me professionally and something I’ve always wanted to do. My mother, when she was alive, always encouraged me to pursue this dream.
“Sadly, she will never get to see it, but I know she is watching over me. I’ve had great support from the industry, especially in Ireland, and winning Best Actor at the Monaco Film Festival was very rewarding.”
Blackbird will be released in Irish cinemas on Friday 2nd September
