Majella O’Donnell has spoken openly about why herself and husband Daniel never had any children. The 56-year-old has two children from her previous marriage, Siobhan and Michael, and welcomed her first grandchild last year.
Although the couple tried to have children, it “wasn’t meant to be” for them, and Majella feels now that “it was for the best.”
Speaking to RSVP magazine she said, “Well yes, we did try but nothing happened, it wasn’t meant to be. We didn’t try for too long because I was 42 when I married him, we never prevented it but it never happened.
“Now, I realise it was for the best, imagine if I was at home and a child going to school, now we have the best of both worlds, Olivia is like having our own baby.”
The mum-of-two also revealed that Daniel is fantastic with little Olivia, and would have made a great dad. However, he plays a large role in Siobhan and Michael’s life and has a great relationship with Majella’s former husband Raymond.
“He will do it all, he is mad about her. That is the reason we went on the cruise, I felt taking her to the Caribbean was a bit much with the time changes and she is not going to thank us for it but he wanted to have her for the week.
“I am not a great one for getting up in the morning but if we have her at all, Daniel is up with her at 7am, changing the nappy, getting the bottle, sits up with her and plays with her.
“I get up at 9am and give her a breakfast but not a bother on him, I knew he would have made a brilliant father,” she said.
