Kneecap snubbed at Oscars

Kneecap

Kneecap may have been winning awards across the globe for their debut film.

But they won’t be bringing home the most acclaimed award in the film industry.

Yes, the nation with bated breath to see if the three lads were nominated for an Oscar in the Best International Film category.

Unfortunately, the rap group missed out on a nomination after being longlisted last year.

Kneecap was the third Irish film to ever be shortlisted for Best International Feature at the Oscars, after Viva and An Cailín Ciúin.

Brazilian film, I’m Still Here, Denmark’s The Girl with the Needle, France’s entry Emilia Pérez, German film The Seed of the Sacred Fig,” and the Latvian Flow were all nominated.

The group were also up for Best Original Song for their song Sick In The Head, which featured in the film, but missed out in the end..

Of course the lads had to answer with a tongue and cheek message that read: “F**k the Oscars. Free Palestine.”

Irish shorts Clodagh and Room Taken were also snubbed in the Best Live Action Short category.

However, it’s not all sad news for Ireland as Irish film production company Tailored Films is today celebrating two Academy Award® nominations for Donald Trump biopic The Apprentice in the categories of Leading Actor (Sebastian Stan) and Supporting Actor (Jeremy Strong).

Kneecap will have a busy year in any case as they have been nominated for six BAFTAs and 17 IFTAs.

Who needs an Oscar anyway?
