Kian Egan was unexpectedly reunited with a childhood pal on last night’s The Voice of Ireland.

The star had a blast from the past when Sligo singer Kelesa Mulcahy auditioned for the show – who just happened to grow up with Kian, and also mingled with him during his boyband days.

The 33-year-old comes from the same hometown as the former popstar, and was in a girlband named Minx at the time that Kian was enjoying success with Westlife, even touring with popular groups Liberty X and Blue a number of years ago.

On last night’s episode of the RTE singing competition, Kelesa wowed all four judges with her rendition of AC/DC’s Highway to Hell, and even managed to get each of them to turn their chairs.

And straight away, Kian recognised her from his younger years. “She grew up with me, pretty much,” he exclaimed. “Kelesa did loads of musicals with me, Shane and Mark from Westlife, we’ve known each other our whole lives and we see each other out and about every now and again in Sligo.”

Giving her performance a glowing review, Kian added: “Brilliant to see you here, well done.”

And, unsurprisingly, Kelesa chose team Kian going forward in the contest – it would have been pretty awkward if she hadn’t, to be fair!
