It was a star-studded night at the Oscars, where Hollywood’s elite walked the carpet in the hopes of taking home the coveted golden man deeming them the “best” in their category, according to the academy.
We had some Irish representation on the night with Belfast up for six awards and winning the award for best original screenplay.
This was Kenneth Branagh’s first Oscar, upon receiving the award he made a heartfelt speech paying tribute to Ireland and his experience growing up;
“This is an enormous honour for my family and a great tribute to an amazing city and fantastic people.
“This story is the search for joy and hope in the face of violence and loss.
“We lost some people along the way. We miss them, we love them and we will never forget them and we will never forget all of those lost in the heart-breaking, heart-warming human story of that amazing city of Belfast on the fabulous island of Ireland. This means a lot,” he said.
What an achievement!
The stars of Belfast were all in attendance at the awards to show support for their nominations, including Caitriona Balfe, Jude Hill and Jamie Dornan.
